Heeyoung Kim paints flowers with watercolor, oil, pen and ink, colored pencils, and pencils. Recently, she has devoted most of her time in painting Illinois wildflowers including rare, endangered, and threatened species with watercolor. She loves to dramatize the unique characteristics of each plant that she takes as her subject, in order to make her viewers actually notice their beauty. Her passion for painting wildflowers has grown deeper wishing their beauty and significance would be shared with the world.
She sometimes does enjoy oil floral paintings as a relaxing breakthrough from her extremely detailed and meticulous botanical rendering. She usually does pencil drawing as pre-study for her botanical watercolor, but she also enjoys putting the last details to her drawings and make them finished pieces. She d love to do more pen and ink drawings in the future, because she loves the simplicity and therapeutic quality of the black and white.
Heeyoung Kim is a member of The American Society of Botanical Artists and The Reed-Turner Botanical Artists Group in Long Grove, Illinois.
